Biography
Joanne McDade is a vocal artist and well-rounded musician noted for her engaging stage presence and musical versatility. As a singer, she is equally accomplished in performing classical, sacred, musical theater, jazz, and popular repertoire.
Joanne is a dedicated voice and piano instructor, having taught in both private and academic settings for over 20 years. Her extensive vocal and pianistic training includes the Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon and the Master of Arts degree with emphasis in Piano Performance from California State University, Sacramento.
Teaching Experience
Joanne McDade enjoys teaching piano and voice to both children and adults of all ages and abilities. She believes that learning music should be enjoyable, educational, and nurturing to the body, intellect, and spirit. Joanne has taught private piano and voice for over 20 years.
Joanne earned her Bachelor and Master degrees in Piano Performance from California State University, Sacramento, and her Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Oregon, where she directed the University Womens’ Chorus and taught applied voice.
Joanne is a Certified McClosky Voice Technician (CMVT), trained in working with individuals experiencing vocal difficulties or recovering from vocal injury. She has taught at St. Francis High School, Sacramento City College, Sierra College, Umpqua Community College, the University of Oregon, and Hendrix College.
Since relocating to Illinois in 2013, Joanne has taught at Elmhurst Music Academy, the Chicago School of Music, and the Knight Music Academy. Joanne continues to polish her vocal and performance skills by studying voice with renowned Northwestern University voice professor W. Stephen Smith and by keeping an active performing schedule as a recitalist, frequently performing innovative works by contemporary composers.
